Big-leaf Puerh tea orginates from Yunnan Province in China's southwest, the region from which the tea species first evolved and crossed over into human use. This tea instead of being aged, is processed into a red tea style, called dianhong. The tea trees in the wilderness home of this tea are very old and tall, embedded within a thriving and pristine ecology. This tea is a wild and unclassified varietal of Camellia sinensis.
Full-bodied and sweet, this tea has a moderately high caffeine level and is both energizing, soothing, and focusing. It supports activity and meditation.
A clay teapot or gaiwan (lidded cup) is the recommended brewing vessel. Use 5-7 grams of loose tea per session. Expect to steep this Red Tea 5-8 times. Recommended steeping time is 20-45 seconds with 200 °F water.
